Last year I had opportunity to translate the book named “Capture Your Style” written by Amie Song, the Korean fashionista. Her style is impressive. Inside her book, she presented many beautiful places including Croatia. Her picture of Croatia inspired us to go to see the beauty of this crescent moon city once in a lifetime. Fortunately, we accidentally found the cheap ticket of Qatar Airways which costed only 10,200 Baht (Multi-city ticket: go to Croatia and come back from Bulgaria). We do not hesitate to reserve tickets immediately. In this trip, we will go to visit total 6 countries including Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bulgaria. ทริปนี้ผมเดินทางทั้งหมด 6 ประเทศ ได้แก่ โครเอเชีย, สโลวีเนีย, บอสเนีย, มอนเตเนโกร, เซอร์เบีย และ บัลแกเรีย เพียงถ้าคุณมี วีซ่าเชงเก้น แบบ Double หรือ Multiple และยังไม่หมดอายุ ประเทศเหล่านี้จะเข้า-ออกได้สบาย โดยที่ไม่ต้องยุ่งยาก แต่ถ้าไม่มีวีซ่าเชงเก้นหล่ะ ? หากใครที่จะเดินทางต่อไปยังประเทศอื่น แต่ไม่แน่ใจว่าจะต้องไปขอวีซ่าเชงเก้นที่สถานฑูตของประเทศใด ผมมีวิธีง่ายๆ มาฝาก
– ถ้าเดินทางไปยังประเทศในกลุ่ม EU มากกว่า 1 ประเทศ จะต้องขอวีซ่าเชงเก้นที่สถานฑูตของประเทศที่เราไปอยู่นานที่สุด อาทิเช่น ไปโครเอเชีย 5 วัน และไปเที่ยวบัลแกเรียต่ออีก 3 วัน จะต้องขอวีซ่าเชงเก้นโดย ยื่นผ่าน VFS Global โครเอเชีย
– ถ้าเดินทางไปยังประเทศในกลุ่ม EU มากกว่า 1 ประเทศ และมีประเทศที่อยู่นานสุดมากกว่า 1 ประเทศ (จำนวนวันเท่ากัน) อาทิเช่น ไปโครเอเชีย 5 วัน ไปบัลแกเรีย 3 วัน และไปเยอรมัน 5 วัน จะต้องไปขอวีซ่าเชงเก้นที่สถานฑูตของประเทศที่เราอยู่นานที่สุดเป็นประเทศแรก ซึ่งจากตัวอย่างนี้ต้อง ยื่นผ่าน VFS Global โครเอเชีย
การยื่นขอ วีซ่าเชงเก้น (โครเอเชีย) จะต้องยื่นผ่าน VFS Global โครเอเชีย เพื่อทำการส่งเล่มไปต่างประเทศ เพราะโครเอเชียไม่มีสถานทูตอยู่ในประเทศไทย สามารถเข้าไปดูรายละเอียดและดาวน์โหลดแบบฟอร์มได้จากเว็บไซท์โดยตรง VFS Global Croatia และทำการกรอกข้อมูล เตรียมเอกสารให้เรียบร้อย หลังจากนั้นไปยื่นเอกสารที่สำนักงานของ VFS อาคารสีลมคอมเพล็กซ์ ชั้น 15 ซึ่งเปิดทำการวันจันทร์ถึงศุกร์ ระหว่างเวลา 8:30-12:00 น. และ 13:00-16:00 น. ค่าธรรมเนียมการขอวีซ่าสำหรับท่องเที่ยวประมาณ 3,450 บาท (ค่าธรรมเนียมอาจมีการเปลี่ยนแปลง) ใช้เวลาประมาณ 10-15 วันทำการ
Get ready before driving from North to South.
Travelling to Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bulgaria; you can easily access to these countries if you have double or multiple Schengen visa which are still valid.
Q: What should I do if I don’t have this kind of visa?
A: If you would like to travel to other countries but not sure that you need to apply for Schengen visa at which embassy, I have a simple way to make you understand easily.
– If you plan to visit more than one EU country, you must apply for a Schengen visa at the embassy of the country where you stay longest. For example, if you plan to visit Croatia for 5 days and will visit Bulgaria for next 3 days; you need to apply for Schengen by submit documents at VFS Global Croatia.
– If you plan to visit more than one EU country and plan to stay at more than one country with the same period (same number of days), you must apply for Schengen visa at the embassy of the first country where you stay longest. For example, if you plan to stay in Croatia for 5 days, then will stay in Bulgaria for 3 days, after that will stay in German for 5 days; you need to apply for Schengen visa via VFS Global Croatia.
Applying for Schengen visa (Croatia), you must submit documents to VFS Global Croatia. They will pass your passport abroad because there is no Embassy of Croatia in Thailand. For more information, please visit VFS Global Croatia website. You can find more information and download application from this website. After filled in the application form and already prepared all documents, you can submit all of them at VFS office which located on 15th floor of Silom Complex Tower. The office opens Mon-Fri during 8:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The visa fee for tourist is approximately 3,450 Baht (subject to change) and will take about 10-15 business days.

Nowadays Internet is very important for travelers because we need to communicate with others, finding some places in the map, looking for some information, finding how to go to some attractions, uploading some pictures in social network. That’s why pocket wi-fi is a convenient way. It can be shared to many people. This trip we use Smile wi-fi that we booked in advance and picked up at Suvarnabhumi Airport (B floor). The rental price is 290 baht per day. We can use Internet for 500 MB per day. If we use more than that, its speed will be reduced. เมื่อเดินทางมาถึงท่าอากาศยานนานาชาติซาเกร็บ เพื่อความคล่องตัวผมเลือกเช่ารถขับ อีกทั้งเรายังมีแผนที่จะเดินทางไปประเทศอื่น ที่อยู่ใกล้เคียง อาทิ Slovenia, Montenegro และ Bosnia ด้วย รถที่โครเอเชียพวงมาลัยซ้าย ถนนหนทางที่ไม่ใช่ทางหลวงนั้นค่อนข้างแคบ บางแห่งก็มีความคดเคี้ยวมาก ต้องใช้ความระมัดระวังพอสมควร อีกหนึ่งเรื่องที่ต้องระวังก็คือเรื่องของการจอดรถในที่ห้ามจอดหรือการขับรถผ่านโซนห้ามเข้า เพราะหากทำผิดจะโดนใบสั่งมูลค่าสูงทีเดียว เราเช่ารถของบริษัท Goldcar เป็นระยะเวลา 5 วัน ในราคาเพียง 210 KN + Tax 25%
When we reached Zagreb International Airport, we rented a car because of its flexible to go to other surrounded countries liked Slovenia, Montenegro, and Bosnia. The cars in Croatia are left-hand drive. Non-highway lanes are relatively narrow. Some roads are very crooked. We need to use caution while driving. You should keep in mind that parking in non-parking areas and driving to some restricted zone are prohibited. If you did, you have to pay costly fine. We rent car from Goldcar for 5 days which costs only 210 KN + 25% tax.

Tourist Attractions in Croatia
Croatia is located between Central Europe, Southern Europe, and Eastern Europe. The shape of the country is like a crescent moon or a horseshoe. It adjacent to many neighbors including Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Italy. There are 7 world heritages in Croatia including Old City of Dubrovnik, Stari Grad Plain, Plitvice Lakes National Park, Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Porec, Cathedral of Saint James, Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian, Historic City of Trogir. The famous atmosphere is at Black Sea. Croatian use money currency named KN which equal to 5 Baht per 1 KN.

เราเริ่มเที่ยวกันที่เมืองแรก คือ เมืองหลวง Zagreb (ซาเกร็บ) เป็นเมืองที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดของ โครเอเชีย แบ่งออกเป็น 2 เขตใหญ่ๆ คือ เขตเมืองเก่า ซึ่งตั้งอยู่เนินเขาทางตอนเหนือของเมือง จึงเรียกกันว่า The Upper Town อีกเขตหนึ่งเป็นเมืองสมัยใหม่ที่สร้างขึ้นในศตวรรษที่ 19 เรียกว่า The Lower Town ตั้งอยู่บนที่ราบริมแม่น้ำซาวา จุดแบ่งระหว่างเขตเมืองทั้ง 2 นี้ คือ จัตุรัส Ban Jelacic Trg ซึ่งตั้งชื่อตามท่าน Count Josip Jelacic Buzimski วีรบุรุษของประเทศ ซึ่งนำทหารโครแอตต่อต้านฮังการีในสมัยต้นศตวรรษที่ 19 โดยมีอนุสาวรีย์ของท่านในท่าขี่ม้าศึกอยู่ที่จัตุรัสแห่งนี้ บริเวณจัตุรัส Josip Jeelascic Trg นี้ นับเป็นย่านที่ทันสมัยที่สุดของประเทศ เป็นศูนย์รวมของห้างสรรพสินค้า และร้านค้าแบรนด์เนมต่างๆ มากมาย
Zagreb
We start our trip at capital city named Zagreb which is the largest city in Croatia. It is divided into two major districts: Old Town which located in the northern hills of the city that called Upper Town and a modern city built in the 19th century called Lower Town which located on Sava River plain. The point that divide these two towns is Ban Jelacic Trg Square which named after Count Josip Jelacic Buzimski, the hero of the country who led the Croatian troops against Hungary in the early 19th century. His monument in the horseback rides position which located in this square. Josip Jeelascic Trg Square is one of the most modern area in the country. It is the center of the department stores and many brand name shops.

Although we rent a car, we choose to use 24-hour Zagreb card while traveling in Zagreb. The card costs 98 KN. We can pre-order -> Zagreb Card and pick it up at the Tourist Information. It can be used as a ticket for the public transport and as the pass of more than 70 places including museums, the Observation Deck, and the zoos.

Zagreb card can also be used as ticket for Tourist Train. We can take this train to travel around the city with unlimited rounds. This mini train will leave every 30 minutes. It can be up at the front of the Tourist Information building.

Cathedral of Zagreb หรือ อาสนวิหารแห่งเมืองซาเกร็บ ตั้งอยู่บน Kaptol Square มีอายุกว่า 800 ปี เป็นโบสถ์เก่าแก่ที่มีรูปแบบสถาปัตยกรรมแบบกอธิก โดดเด่นด้วยยอดแหลมคู่ปลายแหลมสีทอง สูงกว่าร้อยเมตร อาสนวิหารที่เห็นกันอยู่ในปัจจุบันเป็นผลงานการออกแบบของสถาปนิกชาวเยอรมันนามว่า Hermann Bolle อาสนวิหารแห่งนี้เป็นวิหารหลักของเมือง ภายในกว้างขวางใหญ่โตมาก มีแท่นประกอบพิธีกรรมที่สร้างด้วยหินอ่อนแบบบาโรค
The Cathedral of Zagreb is located on Kaptol Square which more than 800 years old. It is a historic cathedral featured with a pair of gold tips which higher than hundred meters. The present cathedral is the designed by German architecter named Hermann Bolle. This cathedral is the main cathedral of the city. Inside of the cathedral is very spacious and there is ritual platform made from Baroque stone.

In front of the cathedral, there is Marija Kolona pillar. You should not miss this important place.

Dolac market is not far from The Cathedral of Zagreb. It is attractive because of many red umbrellas lined behind Ban Jelacic Trg. This market sells local products, food, flower, and fruits. There are both indoor and outdoor zones.
เดินต่อมาไม่ไกลนัก จะพบกับประตูเมืองเก่า Porta di Pietra (Kamenita vrata) ซึ่งแปลว่า ประตูหิน เราจึงรู้จักกันในชื่อ Stone Gate แต่เดิมสร้างเป็นประตูไม้ แต่ถูกไฟไหม้เมื่อปี ค.ศ.1731 จนประตูเสียหายทั้งหมด แต่ในบรรดากองเถ้าถ่านกลับปรากฏรูปของแม่พระและพระกุมารที่เคยประดับอยู่ที่ประตูเมืองไม่ได้รับความเสียหายแต่อย่างใด ชาวเมืองจึงเชื่อในความศักดิ์สิทธิ์นี้จึงนิยมมาจุดเทียนขอพรกัน หากพรที่ขอไว้สมดังหวัง ชาวบ้านก็จะนำป้ายหินหรือไม้สลักคำว่า Hvala ที่แปลว่าขอบคุณ มาวางไว้บริเวณนี้
Walking a bit from Dolac market, you will see the old gate named Porta di Pietra (Kamenita vrata) which means the stone gate. It was originally built as a wooden gate. It was burned in 1731 and the gate was damaged. In the ashes, only the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Child Jesus that used to adorned at the gate of the city was not damaged. The people of the city believed in this sacredness, so they come to light candles and ask for what they wish. If the blessings are expected, they will put the stone signs at this gate. These signs are carved the word “Hvala” which means thank you.

Another highlight of the city is Church of St. Mark which is Roman-style combining with Gothic art. On the roof, tiles are laid so that they represent the coat of arms of Zagreb (white castle on red background) and Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia.There is military standing in the front of the church. This church is not open and we cannot go inside.
เดินในย่าน Upper Town มาเรื่อยๆถึงกับต้องสะดุดเมื่อเจอกับพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่เห็นชื่อแล้วต้องหยุดเข้าไปชม Museum of Broken Relationships เป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่เกิดขึ้นมาจากแนวคิดของศิลปินท้องถิ่น 2 คนที่จบความสัมพันธ์กันหลังคบหากันมานาน 4 ปี ภายในมีสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ที่ได้รับบริจาคมาจากคู่รักที่เลิกรากัน เก๋ไก๋จนได้รับรางวัล European Museum Awards เลยทีเดียว ภายในมี Brokenships Café และร้านขายของที่ระลึกด้วย
I walked around the Upper Town and stumbled at the Museum of Broken Relationships. This Museum is built based on the idea of two local artists who broke up after having been together for four years. Inside the museum, there are many items that have been donated by couples who break up. There are Brokenships Café and souvenir shop inside.
มาต่อกันที่รถราง Funicular (ZET USPINJACA) เป็นรถรางที่ สั้นที่สุดในยุโรป ซึ่งมีระยะทางเพียง 66 เมตร เชื่อมต่อระหว่าง The Upper Town และ The Lower Town ใช้เวลานั่งไม่ถึงนาที แต่ก่อนเป็นรถจักรไอน้ำ ต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนเป็นระบบรางไฟฟ้า
Here is the Funicular (ZET USPINJACA) which is the shortest tram in Europe. Its distance is only 66 meters located between the Upper Town and the Lower Town. The passengers will take less than 1 minute. At first it is a steam engine but later it was transformed into an electric rail system.

On the top of the Upper Town is the beautiful viewpoint of Zagreb. We recommend you go there both day time and night time.
หรือจะขึ้นไปชมจากมุมสูงที่ Lotrscak Tower เป็นหอคอยเก่า ซึ่งเปิดให้บริการถึงเวลา 21:00 น. ค่าขึ้นคนละ 200 KN
You can up the see the top-down view at Lotrscak Tower which is an old tower. It opens until 9 p.m. Its price is 200 KN per person.

After explored the Upper Town already, we will change the atmosphere by going to the Lower Town.
ที่นี่ก็มีจุดชมวิวมุมสูงด้วยนะครับ Zagreb 360 เป็น Observation Deck ที่อยู่ใจกลางเมือง อยู่บนชั้น 16 ของตึกสูงที่อยู่บริเวณจัตุรัส Ban Jelacic Trg สามารถชมวิวได้แบบ Open Air กว้างถึง 360 องศา ในวันที่อากาศดี ท้องฟ้าปลอดโปร่ง เราจะสามารเห็นไฮไลท์ของเมืองได้อย่างมากมายทั้ง Main Square, Cathedral, Upper Town และ Lower Town ฯลฯ
The Zagreb 360 an observation deck located in the central of the city. It is on the 16th floor of the tall building at Ban Jelacic Trg Square. We can enjoy panoramic view here. On the day that sky is clear, we are able to see many highlights of the city including Main Square, Cathedral, Upper Town, and Lower Town etc.

Normally we must pay 60 KN per person but we can use Zagreb Card to access here for free. It is recommended to come here both in daytime and nighttime.

Strukli has two flavors that are salty and sweet. We can choose whether cooked (Kuhani) or gratinatd (Zapeceni) style. This time we chose Salty Cheese Cooked. It is made from flour and cheese. It looks like pancakes topped with the sauce. Another one is Truffle Gratinated that look like Lasagna. It is cheese and flour baked together and topped with scalloped truffle sauce.

มาต่อกันที่สถานที่เที่ยวถัดไปในโครเอเชีย ที่นี่เคยมีภาพส่งต่อมาทางเมลอันโด่งดังบ้างว่าเป็นน้ำตกที่อยู่ในประเทศไทย แต่ที่ไหนได้น้ำตกนี้อยู่ที่โครเอเชียนะคร้าบบบ เราขับรถจากซาเกร็บมาประมาณ 2 ชั่วโมง ก็มาถึง อุทยานแห่งชาติพลิทวิเซ เจเซรา (National Park Plitvice Jezera) ซึ่งเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดในยุโรปตะวันออก ตั้งอยู่ในเขตคาร์ลโลแวค ตอนกลางของโครเอเชีย ใกล้กับพรมแดนประเทศบอสเนียและเฮอร์เซโกวีนา มีพื้นที่กว่า 296 ตารางกิโลเมตร มีทะเลสาบสีเขียวมรกตและสีฟ้า มากถึง 16 ทะเลสาบ ซึ่งมีต้นกำเนิดมาจากน้ำในภูเขา Mala Kapela อุทยานแห่งนี้ถูกค้นพบเมื่อปี 1949 และได้ขึ้นทะเบียนเป็น มรดกโลกโดยองค์กร UNESCO เมื่อปี 1979 ด้วย
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Let’s move to the next attractive attractions in Croatia. When see this picture, some people might think that this waterfall is in Thailand but it is the most famous waterfall is in Croatia. After driving for 2 hours from Zagreb, we reached the National Park Plitvice Jezera which is the oldest national park in Eastern Europe. This park is in Karlovac in the middle of Croatia near the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This park covers an area of 296 square kilometers. There are emerald and blue 16 lakes. The lakes originate from the water of Mala Kapela Mountain. The park was discovered in 1949 and was registered as the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979.

Because of the mountainous terrain that is unequal and the minor lakes that are located along the hills, the water that flows between the lagoon becomes a beautiful waterfall. There are two large waterfalls within the park that are Galovackibuk Waterfall and Veiki Slap (Big Waterfall) that is the highlight of this park with the height 78 meters. The color of the water in each lake varies according to the area, season, and time of day. Sometimes they are emerald, green, gray, or color. The different color is a result of the minerals below. All of 16 lakes are divided into two main zones: Upper Lakes (12 lakes) and Lower Lakes (4 lakes).
เส้นทางการเดินในอุทยานแห่งชาตินี้มีมากมายหลากหลายแบบให้เลือก ตั้งแต่ Route A จนถึง Route K ใช้เวลาตั้งแต่ 2 ชั่วโมง ไปจนถึง 8 ชั่วโมง เราขอเลือกเดินทางสายกลาง เลยเลือก Route C ซึ่งใช้เวลาประมาณ 4 ชั่วโมง กับระยะทาง 8 กิโลเมตร โดยเริ่มที่ประตู Entrance 1 แล้วเดินลัดเลาะริมทะเลสาบช่วง Lower Lakes ซึ่งเป็นจุดต่ำที่สุดของอุทยาน มีลักษณะเป็นหน้าผา ทางค่อนข้างชัน แต่ทางเดินเป็นทางลาด ทำให้เดินสบาย
There are many walking routes of traveling in this national park range from Route A to Route K, ranging from 2 hours to 8 hours. We chose Route C (not too hard) which takes about 4 hours for walking 8 kilometers. We started at Entrance 1 then walked along the Lower Lakes which is the lowest point of the park. It is the cliff and slightly steep, but the pathway is a ramp so we can walk easily.

We had opportunity to walk closely to the waterfalls. At some points, there are path across the river; so we can stop to take the gorgeous pictures of the waterfalls.
เมื่อเดินมาถึงจุด P3 จะพบกับทะเลสาบที่ใหญ่ที่สุดของ Plitvice ชื่อว่า Kozjak Jezero ซึ่งเป็นจุดสำหรับขึ้นเรือข้ามฟากซึ่งจะมีให้บริการเป็นระยะๆ เรือข้ามฟากที่นี่มีขนาดใหญ่ สามารถจุคนได้ประมาณ 100 คน และเรือจะไปส่งที่ท่าเรือของฝั่ง Upper Lakes (P2)
When we reached P3 point, we found Plitvice’s largest lake called Kozjak Jezero which is a ferry-crossing point. The ferry here is huge and able to accommodate about 100 people. Its available from time to time. It delivered us to the pier of Upper Lakes (P2).
เดินเรื่อยๆ เพื่อขึ้นไปยังจุดเหนือสุดของอุทยาน ชมความงามของ Big Waterfall ซึ่งจะเห็นน้ำในทะเลสาบเป็นสีเขียว และมีน้ำตกเป็นฉากหลัง สวยงามเกินบรรยายจริงๆ แม้ระยะทางจะไกลพอสมควร แต่เมื่อเดินริมทะเลสาบไปเรื่อยๆ เราก็เพลิดเพลินกับความงามของธรรมชาติจนลืมเหนื่อยกันไปเลย ทางเดินก็ทำไว้ดีมากๆอีกด้วย เพราะทุก Route ที่จัดไว้ตั้งแต่ A-K ไม่มีการเดินย้อนศร แถมมีป้ายบอกกำกับไว้ชัดเจน
We keep walking until reaching the top of the park in order to see the beauty of the Big Waterfall. From this point, we can see view that has green lake and waterfall as a backdrop which are very amazing. Even we had to walk a bit far but we enjoyed the beauty of nature and totally forgot that we are tired. The walkway is very well-organized. We are unable to walk backward even walk choose route A, B, C, E, F, H, or K. We did not get lost because there are clear signs along the walkway.

We walked to St.3 to take the bus in order to return to St.1 which is next to the exit.
หากลองมาสัมผัสด้วยตัวเอง แล้วจะรู้ว่าทำไมอุทยานแห่งนี้ถึงเป็นอุทยานที่โดดเด่นระดับโลก สำหรับสายธรรมชาติ ไม่ควรพลาด ใครอยาก Trekking เบาๆ ก็ฟินได้ ไม่ผิดหวัง การเดินทางมานั้นก็ไม่ยาก เพียงแต่ต้องเลือกฤดูที่จะมาให้เหมาะสม
I strongly recommend you come to here and you will find the answer why Plitvice is the most famous National Park. For the natural lovers, you should not miss this attraction. For the ones who love slightly trekking, you will not disappointed. It is not difficult to come here but you should select to come in the right season.

At the time we visited the park, the entrance fee is 150 KN per person (include ferry and bus), for children under 7 years old is free.

Split
Let’s go to Split where is the second largest city of Croatia. Split is an important port and being the center of commerce and transportation because it is the largest seaside town in the Adriatic Sea. We drove for 3 hours from Plitvice to Split.

The most noteworthy place to visit in Split is Diocletian’s Palace that was built in the 4th century by Diocletian Emperor who ruled the Roman Empire during AD 284-305. The entrance of the palace is at the wall. The ruins of the palace have been damaged since the fall of the Roman Empire. Only the structure of the temple and some buildings are remaining. The rest areas are filled with houses and shops. The Diocletian’s Palace was registered as the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979.

After walked through the gates of the city, we found Cathedral of St. Domnius which is the place that stay with the Diocletian’s Palace. This cathedral is still perfect. The church was built in 7th century and the bell tower was built later. This cathedral is the oldest catholic church in the world that remains the original structure. Originally it was a tomb of Emperor Diocletian. Later the church was built and named after St. Domnius.

Two Sphinxes in front of the entrance of the church was brought from Egypt by the Emperor Diocletian. He favored in Egyptian civilization. After he suppressed Egyptian rebels, he brought 12 sphinxes back to Split. Now there are only 3 remains here.

Around the cathedral, there are stone pillars, staircase, and beautiful stone buildings.
มาต่อกันที่ Trg Republike (Republic Square) หรือลานคนเดิน ซึ่งออกแบบโดยสถาปนิกจากเวนิส ให้มีลักษณะคล้ายกับจัตุรัสเซนต์มาร์คที่เวนิส ที่จัตุรัสแห่งนี้ มี Prokurative ซึ่งเป็นอาคารที่ไว้ใช้จัดงาน Event ต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวกับวัฒนธรรมของเมือง และเป็นที่ที่ใช้จัดงานดนตรีป๊อปของ Split มาแล้วเกือบ 50 ปี
Next destination is Trg Republike (Republic Square) or walking courtyard. This square was designed by architects from Venice so it looks like St. Mark’s Square in Venice. At this square, there is Prokurative which is the building that used to arrange the events related to the culture of the city and be the place for pop music festival for more than 50 years.
Dubrovnik
เมืองสุดท้ายของประเทศโครเอเชียที่พวกเราได้มาเที่ยว เป็นเมืองท่องเที่ยวสำคัญของแคว้นดัลมาเชีย อย่างเมือง Dubrovnik ซึ่งอยู่ทางตอนใต้ของประเทศ แต่โดดเด่นด้วยความงดงามของธรรมชาติและสถาปัตยกรรมของอาคารบ้านเรือน และกำแพงเมืองเก่าแก่ที่สร้างเมื่อศตวรรษที่ 13 ในปี 1979 เมือง Dubrovnik ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนให้เป็น มรดกโลกจากองค์กร UNESCO ใช้เวลาขับรถจาก Split มาประมาณ 3 ชั่วโมง แต่จะต้องผ่านเขตของประเทศบอสเนียด้วย ถ้าใครเช่ารถขับเองมา Dubrovnik จะต้องซื้อ Cross Border Card จากบริษัทรถเช่า เพราะตอนที่ข้ามแดนในแต่ละประเทศ ทางด่านตรวจจะขอตรวจ Boarding Pass นี้ด้วย ถ้าไม่มีอดเข้าไปเที่ยวแน่ๆ
Dubrovnik
The last town that we visited in Croatia is Dubrovnik – the major tourist town of Dalmatia. It locates in the south part of the country. It is characterized by the beauty of nature and the architecture of old houses and walls that were built in the 13th century. In 1979, Dubrovnik was registered as World Heritage by UNESCO. We drove about 3 hours from Split to Dubrovnik. we passed Bosnia on the way to Dubrovnik. For people who rent the car, they have to buy a cross border card from the car rental company in order to show this pass when passing through another country.

Originally in Roman times, this town was named Ragusa. After the Roman era, it became the Republic of Ragusa and was under the mandate of the Ottoman Empire for hundreds of years. After the Ottoman decay, it was with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The main attraction of Dubrovnik is the Old Town with is enclosed by the walls in order to protect the town from the enemies especially Venice in the past. The surrounding walls are in perfect condition. This town was used as the filming location for the HBO series named Game of Thrones. This series was made based on George R. R. Martin’s novel named A Song of Ice and Fire. It is the story about the battle for the throne in the fantasy world.
เริ่มเข้าสู่ Old Town กันที่ Pile Gate เป็นหนึ่งในสี่ประตูเมืองเก่า ที่ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของตัวเมือง ระหว่าง Lovrijenac Fort และ Bokar Fort สร้างขึ้นในสมัยศตวรรษที่ 15 ใช้เป็นเส้นทางสัญจรหลักระหว่างผู้คนในเมืองเก่ากับโลกภายนอก จากปากประตูมีสะพานไม้ที่ยกขึ้นเพื่อใช้เปิด/ปิดทางเข้า เชื่อมกับสะพานหินข้ามคลองเก่า ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้กลายเป็นสวนไปแล้ว เหนือประตูทางเข้ามีรูปปั้นของ Saint Blasé ตามรูปแบบของศิลปะเรเนซองส์ ท่านเป็นนักบุญองค์อุปถัมภ์ของเมือง Dubrovnik
We passed to the Old Town by entering Pile Gate which is one of the four old gates. It located in the northwestern part of the city between Lovrijenac Fort and Bokar Fort. It was built in the 15th century to use as the main thoroughfare between the old town and the outside. At the door, there is a wooden bridge lifted to open / close the entrance and connected to a stone bridge across the old canal. Now it has become a garden. Over the entrance door, there is a statue of Saint Blasé which is Renaissance art. He is the patron saint of Dubrovnik.

Wall of Dubrovnik is one of the historic buildings that has been registered as World Heritage Site along with Old Town. This wall was built in the 7th century which originally built of wood. It was restored in the 12th -17th century and has been transformed into a large stacked stone wall. Even if it is damaged by natural disasters and the threat of war, it can stand to save the city over 1,400 years.
Opening hours: It opens every day (except Dec 25th). The entrace fee is 150 KN per person.
ทางเดินนี้เป็นแบบ One Way ไม่สามารถเดินย้อนกลับ ขึ้นไปแล้ว เท่ากับว่าต้องเดินให้รอบถึงจะลงมาที่จุดเดิมได้ แต่ระหว่างทางก็มีจุดให้ขึ้น/ลงอยู่เป็นระยะ ด้วยระยะทางเกือบ 2 กิโลเมตร สูง 25 เมตร เห็นครั้งแรกก็แอบท้อเล็กๆ แต่พอขึ้นไปเดินบนกำแพง ก็มีมุมสวยๆ ให้ถ่ายรูปมากมาย ให้เรา Selfie กับฉากหลังเป็นหลังคาสีส้มสวยงาม ทะเลสีน้ำเงินสด เดินแป๊บเดียวก็ครบรอบ ลืมเหนื่อยไปเลย ^^
The walkway is one-way, so we cannot walk backward and must walk around to get back to the starting point. But on the way, there are points to rise / fall periodically. Its length is around 2 km. and high 25 meters. After seeing for the first time, we felt a bit discouraged. But when we walked along the wall, there are many beautiful corners to take selfie with a beautiful orange roofs and fresh blue sea as backdrop, we totally forget that we are almost fatigue ^^.
ระหว่างทางที่เดินจะเจอป้อมปราการหลายแท่ง อาทิ Bokar Fort ซึ่งอยู่ติดกับทะเล ทำหน้าที่ป้องกันข้าศึกที่จะรุกรานเข้าทางประตูเมืองหลัก ต่อมาเป็นป้อม Sveti Ivan หรือ St. John Fortress ซึ่งอยู่ติดกับอ่าวทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ใช้ป้องกันการรุกรานจากโจรสลัดหรือข้าศึกทางทะเล
During the walk, we found several fortresses such as Bokar Fort which is adjacent to the sea and help to defend the enemy to invade through the main city gate. Next is Sveti Ivan Fort or St. John Fortress which is adjacent to the southeastern bay. It was used to prevent invasion from pirates or enemy ships.
นอกจากนี้นอกเขตกำแพงเมืองยังมีป้อม Lovrijenac หรือ St. Lawrence Fortress ตั้งอยู่บนแหลมเล็กที่ยื่นไปในทะเล เพื่อป้องกันการรุกรานจากสาธารณรัฐเวนิส มีความสูงกว่า 30 เมตร ที่แห่งนี้ใช้เป็นฉากพระราชวังของเมือง King’s Landing ในภาพยนตร์ หรือ Red Keep นอกจากนี้ยังมีป้อม Revelin Fortress ซึ่งอยู่นอกเมือง ตรงประตู Ploce ทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของเมือง ไม่ได้ติดกับกำแพงเมือง
Lovrijenac Fortress or St. Lawrence Fortress is located on a small peninsula stretching to the sea (outside the city wall). It helped to prevent invasions from the Republic of Venice. Its height is over 30 meters. This is used as the King’s Landing’s palace (Red Keep) scene in the series. Moreover, there is Revelin Fortress located Ploce Gate (outside the city) in the northeastern part of the city.

Heading to Minceta Tower which is the tallest tower in the Old Town. It located in the north of the city. From the top of the tower, we can see the old town thoroughly.
ถนนเส้นหลักของเมืองเก่า คือ Stradun มีอายุกว่า 700 ปี แต่เดิมเป็นตลาดค้าปลามาก่อน ถัดมาที่เห็นสูงๆเป็น หอระฆังประจำเมือง โดดเด่นเป็นสง่า มองเห็นได้ง่าย ทำหน้าที่บอกเวลาให้ชาวเมืองแห่งนี้มาตั้งแต่ศตวรรษที่ 15 กลางจัตุรัสมีเสาหินเตี้ยๆ ชื่อ Orlando’s Column บนเสามีรูปสลักของอัศวิน Orlando ในท่าถือดาบ สร้างโดยศิลปินชาวโครแอต เพื่อเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของอิสรภาพ
The main street of the old town is Stradun which is more than 700 years old. In the ancient time, it was fish market. The tall tower that we can see easily is the Bell tower. It has told the time since the 15th century. In the middle of the square, there is a small stone pillar called Orlando’s Column. On the mast, there is a statue of the Knights of Orlando in a sword-carrying posture created by the Croatian artist to be as a symbol of freedom.

Beyond the Old Town, there is also a panoramic viewpoint. We went up on the Srd mountain. You can choose to go there either by walk or take the Dubrovnik Cable Car. You can get your tickets in advance at -> Cable Car. Another way is to drive to the top of the mountain.

If you have the opportunity to visit Croatia, I recommend the Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik as an interesting accommodation that you should not missed.

Even price is a bit high but you will get all service that I mentioned above, so I think it is very worth. Let’s try to stay here for a night, then move to stay in the Old Town for a night in order to experience the different atmosphere.
