Let’s talk about Bahrain a bit. Bahrain is officially called Kingdom of Bahrain and ruled by the king of Al Khalifa as the supreme ruler. The main economy of the country is the export of oil and pearls. Its geography is a small island terrain surrounded by the sea. It is close to Saudi Arabia and Qatar. There are more than 2 million tourists visit this country each year. Bahrain currency called Dinar (BD or BHD) and 1 BHD is worth about 87 THB. The value of Bahrain currency is second largest which less than Kuwaiti currency only (1 KWD = 115 baht).
Thai tourists are not required to apply for Bahrain visa (free Visa) and can stay up to 30 days.

This trip I travel with Gulf Air that is a national airline of Bahrain. Gulf Air has direct route to Bahrain that is very convenient because passengers don’t need to via at another country, so it doesn’t waste their time. To check in at check-in counter at Suvarnabhumi Airport is convenient because do not wait long queue. The staffs of Gulf Air are service very well and give advice about the lounge clearly.

ครั้งนี้ผมได้ที่นั่งโดยสารชั้นธุรกิจ ดังนั้นก่อนขึ้นเครื่องจึงสามารถไปพักผ่อนชิวๆที่ Miracle Lounge ที่สนามบินสุวรรณ หาง่ายไม่ยาก เดินผ่าน ตม. เข้ามานิดเดียวก็เจอแล้ว Miracle Lounge เป็น Lounge รวมของสายการบินที่นั่งชั้นธุรกิจ ที่ไม่ได้มี Lounge ของตัวเองแยกออกมา รวมถึงของสายการบิน Gulf Air ด้วย
This time I got a business class seat. So, I can relax at The Miracle Lounge at Suvarnabhumi Airport before boarding. The lounge is easy to find and located not far from Immigration checkpoint. The Miracle Lounge is an integrated lounge of Business Class passengers of many airlines including Gulf Air.

There are many kinds of seat and sofas inside the lounge. Passengers can enjoy nice view at the seat near the window.

The food here is a great selection including hot and cold food. And also, many kinds of drinks are available for you to enjoy.
เครื่องบินที่ผมโดยสารครั้งนี้เป็นเครื่องบินรุ่น Airbus A330
โดยที่นั่งชั้นธุรกิจจะมีจำนวน 8 ที่นั่ง ผังที่นั่งเป็น 1-2-1 และชั้นประหยัดจำนวน 247 ที่นั่ง ผังที่นั่งเป็น 2-4-2 ที่นั่งชั้นธุรกิจจะมีขนาดค่อนข้างกว้างเนื่องจากแต่เดิมเป็นที่นั่งของชั้นโดยสารแบบ First Class มาก่อน
I travel with Airbus A330 that have 8 business class seats with the pattern 1-2-1 and 247 economy class seats with the pattern 2-4-2. The seats in business class are quite wide since they were originally being the seats of the First Class.
พอถึงเวลา Boarding เจ้าหน้าที่จะเรียกให้ผู้โดยสารชั้นธุรกิจขึ้นเครื่องก่อน ทำให้มีเวลาพักผ่อนบนเครื่องอีกสักพักก่อนเดินทาง พอนั่งประจำที่ปุ๊บ พนักงานก็มาเสิร์ฟเครื่องดื่มโดยเราสามารถเลือกได้ว่าจะรับเป็นแชมเปญ ไวน์ เบียร์ น้ำมะนาวมิ้นท์ น้ำส้ม หรือน้ำเปล่า จากนั้นพนักงานก็นำหนังสือพิมพ์มาให้เลือก ที่ผมชอบสุดและถือว่าเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของ Gulf Air นั่นก็คือการเสิร์ฟอินทผาลัมซึ่งเป็นอินทผาลัมเกรดพรีเมี่ยมจากประเทศซาอุดิอาระเบีย โดยเสิร์ฟพร้อมกับ Arabic Coffee ที่ไม่เข้มมากนัก ทานคู่กันฟินสุดๆเลยครับ จากนั้นเชฟจะมารับออเดอร์จากผู้โดยสารแต่ละท่าน สามารถเลือกได้ทั้ง Starters และ Main Course จากในเมนู (บริการแบบนี้เรียกว่า Sky Chef on Board ซึ่งมีเพียง Gulf Air เท่านั้นที่ให้เชฟรังสรรค์เมนูได้ตามที่ต้องการ)
By the boarding time, staffs would call on the business class passengers to board first. So, I have time to rest on the airplane a bit more before traveling. When I take a seat, Gulf Air staff served drinks immediately. There are variety of drinks including champagne, wine, beer, lime juice, mint, orange juice, and water that we can select. Then staff serve the newspaper. The one thing I like the most and is considered a unique of the Gulf Air is serving premium date palm imported from Saudi Arabia together with Arabic coffee. They are a very perfect combination. After that, sky chef will come to collect food order from each passenger (Gulf Air is the only one airline that has sky chef on board). We can choose both starter and main course from the menu.

The seat is very comfortable seat because it can be adjusted to several levels until lie flat 180 degrees long. Sitting to work or sleep in the seat is really comfortable.
มาดูอาหารที่ปรุงจากเชฟกันแบบสดๆ บ้าง เริ่มต้นด้วย Starters ผมเลือกเป็นต้มยำกุ้ง รสชาติกลมกล่อม ไม่จัดจนเกินไป ส่วน Main Course นั้น ผมเลือกเป็น Fillet ปลากะพง เสิร์ฟพร้อมข้าว ส่วนขนมปังก็มีให้เลือกหลายแบบ แต่ที่ชอบสุดๆ คือขนมปังกระเทียม เติมไปหลายรอบเลย
Let’s see some fresh dishes prepared on board by Chef. Let’s start with the starter that I choose Tom Yum Goong (A signature Thai dish – spicy lemongrass and shrimp soup). Its taste is very mellow. For the main course, I select Pla Ka Pong fillet (Asian Sea bass fillet served with lemon butter sauce and pilaf rice. There is variety of bread served together. The one I like most is Garlic bread that I filled up several times.

Dessert is Khao Niew Bing (Thai sticky rice dessert wrapped in banana leaf). The decoration is fantastic and very delicious. This is the first meal served after the airplane take off for a while.

The business class passengers will get water, eye mask, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotions, and mouthwash packed neatly in Cerruti bag.
ก่อนเครื่องลงสักพัก พนักงานก็มาเสริฟ์ของทานเล่น โดยเราสามารถเลือกได้จากรถเข็นเลย ผมเลยลองชิมทอดมัน และขนมเล็กน้อย รสชาติไม่ผิดหวังจริงๆ อร่อยมาก
Before landing for a while, the staff came to serve snack that we can select from the trolleys. I tried some and their taste are very tasty.
เผลอแป๊บเดียว ผ่านไป 7 ชั่วโมง นักบินประกาศให้นั่งประจำที่รัดเข็มขัดปรับที่นั่งให้เรียบร้อย เป็นการเดินทางที่ประทับใจจริงๆ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเรื่องของอาหาร ทานหมดเกลี้ยงเลยครับ ^^
Time flies so fast. 7 hours passed away very fast, and then the pilot announced that we going to land at Bahrain. It’s a really impressive trip especially service and food.
และแล้วก็มาถึงสนามบินนานาชาติกรุง Manama ซึ่งเป็นเมืองหลวงของประเทศบาห์เรน เนื่องจากบาห์เรนเป็นประเทศที่มีขนาดเล็ก บริเวณที่ยาวที่สุด ยาวเพียง 40 กม. และบริเวณที่กว้างที่สุด กว้าง 20 กม. เท่านั้น ผมเลยตัดสินใจเช่ารถขับ ผมเลือกใช้บริการรถเช่าของ Sixt ค่าเช่าไม่แพง วันละ 6.7 BHD (ประมาณ 600 บาท)
I finally arrived at Manama International Airport located in the capital of Bahrain. Bahrain is a small country which the longest distance is only 40 km. and the widest area is 20 km. According to its size, I decided to rent a car. In this trip, I choose to rent car from Sixt’s rental car with costs 6.7 BHD per day (about 600 THB per day).
ราคาน้ำมันที่นี่หายห่วง เพราะเป็นประเทศที่ส่งออกน้ำมัน ดังนั้นราคาน้ำมันจึงถูกกว่าบ้านเรามาก ราคาเพียงลิตรละ 0.125 BHD หรือราว 10 บาทต่อลิตร
ส่วนวันหยุดของบาห์เรนเช่นเดียวกับประเทศอื่นๆ ในแถบตะวันออกกลาง คือ หยุดวันศุกร์-วันเสาร์ ดังนั้น ต้องวางแผนเที่ยวกันให้ดีๆ นะครับ
No need to worry about the oil price because Bahrain is the oil exporter so the price of oil is much cheaper than in Thailand. Oil price in Bahrain is only 0.125 BHD per liter or about 10 THB per liter. The holidays of Bahrain as well as other countries in the Middle East regions are Friday and Saturday. So, we should organize our travel plan in advance.
ค่าที่จอดรถจะต้องจ่ายกับตู้อัตโนมัติหน้าตาแบบในรูป แต่ละจุดจะคิดเรทไม่เท่ากัน ส่วนใหญ่ช่วงเวลา 7.00-19.00 ค่าจอดชั่วโมงละ 0.1 BHD (ประมาณ 8 บาท) เมื่อหยอดเหรียญ รับใบเสร็จ นำใบเสร็จไปวางที่หน้ากระจกรถด้านใน เพื่อตอนที่ตำรวจมาตรวจ เค้าจะดูจากชั่วโมงในใบเสร็จนี้ จอดถูกที่ ทำถูกกฎ จะได้ไม่เสียค่าปรับนะครับ ^^
The parking fee has to be paid at the automatic kiosk as shown in the photo. The parking fee of each area is not the same. In most areas, the parking fee during 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. is 0.1 BHD (about 8 THB) per hour. After insert the coins, we will receive car park ticket. We have to place it at the front mirror of the car (inside the car). Policeman will check from the time that show in this ticket. Let’s do the right thing in order to avoid paying fine.
แผนเที่ยวครึ่งวันในบาห์เรนของผม ที่ตะลอนขับรถเที่ยวแค่ตอนบนของประเทศ ก็สามารถไปเที่ยวได้อย่างน้อย 4-5 สถานที่ ถนนในบาห์เรนโล่ง และเรียบดีมากครับ เลยใช้เวลาในแต่ละจุด ไปแต่ละสถานที่ไม่นาน
My plan for half–day trip in Bahrain is to go in the northern area that I am able to visit 4–5 attractions. The road in Bahrain is very smooth and the traffic is very flow, so I do not take much time from one place to another.

จากสนามบินใช้เวลาประมาณ 15 นาที สถานที่แรก คือ Al Fateh Grand Mosque เป็นมัสยิดกลาง ที่สร้างขึ้นในปี พศ. 2527-2531 ตั้งอยู่ตรงข้ามพระราชวัง Gudaibiya ที่รัฐบาลบาห์เรนใช้เป็นที่ประชุมของคณะรัฐมนตรีและรับแขกทางการ
Fasten your seat belt and go ahead to visit Bahrain together! Taking 15 minutes from the airport, I reached the first attractive attraction named “Al Fateh Grand Mosque”. This mosque was built during 1984–1988, It located opposite Gudaibiya Palace. The government of Bahrain uses this mosque as a meeting room for the cabinet and guests of government.
จุดเด่นของมัสยิดนี้คือ โดมที่ทำด้วยไฟเบอร์กลาสขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก มีน้ำหนักมากกว่า 6 ตัน มีเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 25 เมตร สูงจากพื้น 40 เมตร ตัวอาคารและภายในมีลักษณะเรียบๆ ให้ความรู้สึกสงบเมื่อได้สัมผัส มัสยิดแห่งนี้สามารถจุผู้ที่มาละหมาดได้ถึง 7,000 คน
The highlight of Al Fateh Grand Mosque is the largest fiberglass dome in the world. It is more than 6 tons weight, 25 meters diameters, and 40 meters height. Everyone will feel calm when go inside. This mosque can accommodate up to 7,000 worshipers.

Non–Muslims are not allowed to enter Al Fateh Grand Mosque during 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday – Thursday because of having the religious rituals.
จาก Grand Mosque ไปยังจุดหมายต่อไปที่อยู่ไกลที่สุดของทริปสั้นๆนี้ แต่ใช้เวลาขับรถเพียงแค่ 20 นาทีเท่านั้น เพราะถนนที่บาห์เรนโล่งและเรียบดีมากๆ Qal’at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Fort) ป้อมปราการบาห์เรน และพิพิธภัณฑ์ เป็นโบราณสถานสำคัญของบาห์เรน ที่สร้างขึ้นตั้งแต่สมัยอารยธรรมดิลมัน (Dimun) เมื่อประมาณ 3,000 ปีที่แล้ว และกลายเป็นแหล่งที่อยู่อาศัยสำหรับอารยธรรมต่างๆ อาทิแคสไซต์ เปอร์เซีย โปรตุเกส ฯลฯ
Heading to the next destination. “Qal’at al–Bahrain (Bahrain Fort)”, this is the farthest one of this short trip. I take only 20 minutes to drive because of the open and smooth roads in Bahrain. Bahrain Fortress is the major archaeological site that was built in the Middle Ages (Dimun) about 3,000 years ago. It used to be a home for many civilizations such as Persia, Portugal, etc.
ในช่วง ค.ศ.1800 ได้ถูกปล่อยทิ้งร้างไว้ และถูกทรายจากทะเลพัดมาทับถมกลบป้อมปราการ ต่อมาได้ถูกขุดค้นโดยกลุ่มนักโบราณคดีชาวเดนมาร์กในปี ค.ศ.1954 ซึ่งพบร่องรอยต่างๆ มากถึง 7 อารยธรรม สามารถเดินชมภายในได้โดยรอบ
In 1800s, Bahrain Fort was abandoned and was covered by the sand from the sea. Later it was excavated by a group of Danish archaeologists in 1954. The traces of up to 7 civilizations are discovered. We can follow these traces by walking around.
ขึ้นมายังด้านบนของป้อมปราการจะพบกับวิวรอบข้าง มองไปด้านไกลจะเห็นวิวทะเล ที่มีผู้คนมาท่องเที่ยว นัดพบปะกันบริเวณนี้ ทำให้ที่นี่คึกคัก และไม่น่ากลัวไม่ว่าจะเป็นช่วงกลางวัน หรือช่วงกลางคืน
Going up to the top of the fort, you will find a sea view and a lot of people who come to meet together at the beach. That makes this area to be a bustling place and not scary whether during the day or at a night time.

Looking the last light of the day on this fortress is a very romantic moment. The sun is going down seem like the ending today. Bahrain Fort is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
หลังจากชมโบราณสถานกันมาแล้ว ขอเปลี่ยนบรรยากาศมาแนวสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่อย่าง Bahrain World Trade Center (Bahrain WTC) กันบ้าง World Trade Center เป็นอาคารแฝดที่ถูกสร้างในปี ค.ศ.2004-2008 มีความสูง 240 เมต สูง 50 ชั้น และมีชั้นใต้ดินอีก 4 ชั้น เพื่อใช้เป็นศูนย์กลางทางการเงินและเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของประเทศ เป้าหมายหลักของโครงการนี้คือเพื่อรักษาสภาพแวดล้อม จึงเน้นเรื่องของการใช้พลังงานให้มีประสิทธิภาพมากที่สุด และปล่อยคาร์บอนออกสู่ชั้นบรรยากาศให้น้อยที่สุด สถาปนิกจึงได้ออกแบบอาคารให้มีรูปร่างคล้ายใบเรือที่หันข้างเข้าหากัน และติดตั้ง Turbine บนสะพานเชื่อม เพื่อให้สามารถรับลมจากชายฝั่งทะเลที่มีกำลังแรงได้ เพื่อขับเคลื่อนกังหัน ซึ่งกระแสลมที่พัดผ่านแต่ละชั้นจะมีความเร็วและความแรงที่ต่างกัน กังหันทั้ง 3 สามารถผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้ารวมกันได้มากถึง 675 KW คิดเป็น 11-15% ของกระแสไฟที่ใช้อยู่ อีกทั้งยังเป็น Turbine ขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดและเป็นตัวแรกของโลกที่ติดตั้งระหว่างอาคาร
After visited the ancient sites already, let’s go to see the modern atmosphere at Bahrain World Trade Center (Bahrain WTC). World Trade Center is a twin building that was built in 2004–2008. It is 240 meters height with 50 floors and 4 storeys of basement in order to serve as a financial center and being a symbol of the country. The main goal of this project is to preserve the environment. It focuses on using of energy in the most effective way and release carbon into the atmosphere as little as possible. The Architect designed the building to look like a sail toward each other. Having Turbine on the bridge, the building is able to receive strong winds from the coast in order to propel the turbine The wind that blows through each layer will have different speed and strength. Three turbines can generate up to 675 KW of electricity, representing 11–15% of the current usage in the building. It is also the world’s largest and first turbine installed between the buildings.
ภายในตึก World Trade Center ยังเป็นห้างสรรพสินค้าขนาดใหญ่ที่มีสินค้าแบรนด์เนมมากมายหลายร้านทั้ง LV , Gucci , Armani , Coach และอีกมากมาย ส่วนฝั่งตรงข้ามของตึก จะพบเห็นตึกที่มีรูปทรงแปลกอย่างตึก United Tower เป็นตึกสูง 50 ชั้นที่ตั้งอยู่ใกล้กับอ่าวบาห์เรน และสามารถมองเห็นวิวทะเลได้แบบ 360 องศา
The World Trade Center is also a large department store with many brand names liked LV, Gucci, Armani, Coach and much more. Across this building, we will see another building that has a strange shape named United Tower. It is 50–storey building whhich located near Bahrain Bay. สถานที่ต่อมาอยู่ไม่ไกลจากสนามบินเพียง 4 กิโลเมตร ใครมีเวลาก่อนเครื่องออกผมแนะนำเลยว่าต้องมา!!! นั่นก็คือ Arad Fort เป็นป้อมปราการโบราณ สร้างขึ้นในศตวรรษที่ 15 เชื่อกันว่าถูกสร้างขึ้นเพื่อป้องกันนักเดินเรือต่างชาติที่จะเข้ามารุกรานบาห์เรน ในสมัยโบราณ มาช่วงกลางวันที่นี่สวยงามและอลังการอยู่แล้ว ลองมาชมวิวในช่วงกลางคืน ผมว่าสวยกว่าช่วงกลางวันซะอีก เพราะมีการส่องไฟ ทำให้เห็นถึงความสวยงามได้อย่างชัดเจน
The next place is not far from the airport (only 4 km). If you have time before boarding, I strongly recommend that you should go!!! That is, Arad Fort which is an ancient fortress that was established in the 15th century. People believe that it had been built to protect foreign navigators who would invade Bahrain in ancient times. During the day time, this place looks so beautiful and elegant. And we are able to take a scenic view during the night. From my opinion, the view in night time is more beautiful because of the light so we can see it more clearly.

หลังจากดื่มด่ำกับโบราณสถานและสถาปัตยกรรมกันมาพอสมควรแล้ว ผมขอพาเพื่อนๆ ไปชอปปิ้ง ซื้อของฝากติดไม้ติดมือกันซะหน่อย Manama Souk หรือ Bab al Bahrain Souk ห่างจากตึก WTC ประมาณ 2 กิโลเมตร คำว่า souk หรือ souq แปลว่า ตลาด บริเวณนี้นับว่าเป็นย่านธุรกิจและแหล่งค้าขายที่สำคัญ คนที่นี่บางทีก็ดูน่ากลัวนะครับ เพราะเค้าจะชอบจ้องมอง ยิ่งเห็นคนเอเชียอย่างเราๆ ยิ่งจ้องกันใหญ่เลย แต่ไม่ต้องกลัว แม้คนจะหน้าตาดุไปบ้างแต่ใจดีมากครับ ไม่ว่าจะขอความช่วยเหลือหรือถามอะไร ทุกคนพร้อมให้ความช่วยเหลือกันอย่างเต็มที่
After enjoyed the ancient and architecturally already, I would like to take you to buy a souvenir at Manama Souk or Bab al Bahrain Souk that is about 2 km away from the WTC. The word souk or souq means the market. Manama Souk is a significant business and trading area of Manama. At first, I a bit afraid of Bahrain people because they always stare at me especially at Asian tourists. But do not be afraid because they are very kind indeed and ready to help each us.

Heading to market, we have to pass through Bab al Bahrain old city gate that was created in the days of British rule in Bahrain. It was designed by the adviser of the ruler of Bahrain to be away to enter the Manama market.

Completed the trip in Bahrain, I will continue to go on a plane to Oman. Check in counter of Gulf Air at the airport is very large and zone of Economy and Business Class passengers are clearly separated. The self–service check–in machine is very convenient.

There are bathrooms and showers for male and female separately, but there is no towel so you should prepare it by yourself. You can use a special room called Quiet Lounge that has bed inside. You can sleep in deep and comfort by paying just only 15 BHD per person.

Moreover, there is also a family Room, kids Room that children to play toys. For my generation, I prefer a Game Room with has more than 10 Xbox 360 machines.

There is special gate for Business Class passenger named Falcon Gold Boarding Gate that allow them to board first. Now golden bird is ready for me! I have to continue my trip to the next destination – Oman, the next chapter of my travel diary.

I have to end my half day trip in Bahrain the place that free visa for Thai tourists. I visited only some attractions and really need to come back here again. Bahrain is the country I recommend if you would like to explore new place in Middle East. Bahrain people are very friendly. The country has many interesting places waiting for us to explore.
